This means the majority of these veteran suicides are veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These numbers are unacceptable.
Our disabled veterans, in particular, face numerous challenges transitioning back to the civilian workforce. Gulf War Project is about making it easier for wounded service members to thrive beyond injury to recovery. Through education, support, and mentorship the Project helps participants lead productive lives by providing them with the tools to successfully reconnect them with civilian life, and a skill set to build their own business.
Gulf War Project is about improving the quality of life for our disabled veterans, while helping to fund the research at Boston University Medical Center for the more than 210,000 veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Illness.
Deeply inspired by the determination of service members to overcome their disabilities, we take positive steps to show them a new way forward. We call this “Post-Traumatic Growth.”
Having set up the most comprehensive online curriculum, Veterans Investing University teaches our veterans how to operate from A-Z. The University was created by some of the nation’s most successful real estate investors, including the great Kent Clothier.
Upon completion and graduation from Veterans Investing University, our veterans are then immersed in a detailed mentorship program, complete with on-going coaching, instruction and hands on guidance.
First, the veteran student is enrolled in “Veterans Investing University” through outside sponsorship. The university is a detailed and comprehensive curriculum designed by two of the nations most successful real estate investors, including the great Kent Clothier (CEO at Real Estate Worldwide). The entire course to include the three month mentorship program and personal coaching by our staff of successful investors is valued at over $12,300. Our course is only $5,000 per veteran. The course is financed through individual sponsorship, the veteran does not pay anything. The veteran can advance through the course at their own pace, the average student takes just over two months to complete the university course. The veteran can not proceed through the next training module until successfully passing that sections exam. The university course covers every facet of real estate investing including finding and identifying potential investment properties, wholesaling properties, rehabbing and maximizing profits, commercial investments, land deals, rental properties, financing options, private lenders, contracts and legal stipulations.
Upon completion of the university, the veteran enters into the “mentorship program.” This phase of the training is an additional three months and conducted by our staff of some of the most successful investors in the nation. The Mentorship program has the veteran start to actually apply the skills learned in the university course. The goal here (mentorship) is to ensure the veteran can identify sound, revenue-producing investment properties (i.e. rental properties, rehab projects, etc.) for potential acquisition. During mentorship the veteran will work directly with their personal coach and mentor. The veteran will identify potential investment properties and conduct all due diligence. During the mentorship phase, the veteran will begin the process of building their own business as our coaches will guide them through this process.
The Gulf War Project staff of experienced investors and board members then conducts a detailed vetting process for all potential properties. The Project then finances the most advantageous, revenue producing properties. These properties are either rental properties or rehab projects. The properties are then made “move in ready” (carpet, paint, minor repairs etc.) by the veteran students (depending on their disability). The properties are then entered into the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. This combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics. The VA subsidizes a large portion of the rent, allowing us to provide these properties to “homeless veterans.”
At this phase the Project has now educated, trained and mentored our veteran. This is done while also helping them start their own business, earn a living and provide for their families. This is achieved regardless of their injuries or disability. Through our process the project has now also acquired revenue producing investment properties that will house a homeless veteran through the VA’s HUD-VASH program.
Properties acquired by the Gulf War Project will produce revenue in the form of “rental profits”. After property expenses (ie: property taxes, property maintenance, etc.) profits are then submitted into the Gulf War Illness Research Fund at Boston University School of Medicine. One of only two locations where this research is being conducted. Dr. Sullivan and her staff feel we are within five years of finding a cure for Gulf War Illness and this project could drastically push them over the top.
At this final phase of the project, we have now trained, educated and mentored our veteran. Despite their disability (ie: wheel chair etc.) our veteran now has a skill set and ability to own and operate a successful business that not only enhances their local community, but allowes them to earn a living and provide for their families. The project has acquired revenue producing properties that are then able to house a homeless veteran while also producing revenue that goes to fund Gulf War Illness research at BU. The project is truly unique and extremely effective. The project will impact and improve the lives of thousands of veterans, may whom had been dealing with major challenges and obstacles as they are transitioning back into the civilian workforce. Gulf War Project gives these wounded veterans another option, an opportunity to build a business and get their life back on track.
The Gulf War Project is operated and run through our veterans education being sponsored. Our sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship and are provided the progress of their sponsored veteran. We have had requests by sponsors to have a veteran assigned that is from their home state. We understand this request as the veteran building a business in the sponsors local community also enhances their local economy. We do try our best to honor this request whenever possible. We currently have over 237 combat veterans enrolled in the project that are awaiting sponsorship. Instead of simply writing checks and sending money to a Veterans cause, our Project teaches, mentors and even houses our homeless veterans. We do this all while generating revenue to then fund Gulf War Illness research. After initial sponsorship, the Gulf War Project is 100% self-sufficient.
This project directly impacts veteran suicide, homeless, and unemployment rates, and greatly improves the lives of our disabled veterans, and the more than 210,000 diagnosed with Gulf War Illness.
Through creating jobs and promoting business ownership for veterans, Gulf War Project heals our veterans from within by giving them something they can immerse themselves in—something they can do to make a living and support their families.
Gulf War Project is seeking financial sponsorship between $3.8M and $10M. These numbers were carefully calculated by our expert investors. After two years of organizing and building the Project, we are completely ready to launch. Currently we have over 1,264 disabled veterans enrolled and ready to start the program.
